๐Ÿ’ƒTango Suite Movement III

Marimba Duet (4 Mallets)

Tango Suite Movement III is an excellent arrangement (Kevin Super) of Piazzolla's work. Known to be one his last and most influential compositions, the three- part Tango Suite, for two guitars, was composed in 1984 and published by Berben Edizioni Musicali the year after. Like all his great tango works, these three examples (which resemble a kind of sonata, with a song-like canciรณn sandwiched between two imposingly constructed fast movements) exhibit the โ€œradical chromaticism, dissonance, jazz elements and fugal riffsโ€ with which the Grove Dictionary credits his music, as well as his mastery of the tango from its rise in 1882 through its huge subsequent popularity. In Piazzolla's own words, his Tango Suite, like any authentic tango music, is โ€œfull of spunk and vivacity; the life of the bordello, lived among the corrupt cops, randy sailors, thieves and thugs who frequent them.โ€ The final movement is darker than the previous two, expanding beyond typical Latin- American harmonies into realms of more chromaticism and aggression. The flowing in this movement are more difficult than in the previous two because of their complicated tonal nature. Piazzolla calls for one player to also play along on bongos, but many people opt for substitutions like a cajon.
